SPACE Helps “Feed the Need” with Food and Donations

SPACE team members are filling boxes and bags with non-perishable food items to help stock food pantries in Midland County.  ReMax and Dow Chemical in conjunction with United Way are spearheading the “Feed the Need” community food drive.  Chemical Bank distributed several hundred mesh bags to be used to collect food donations.

Within 12 hours of announcing that SPACE would be participating in the drive, a box filled with food items mysteriously appeared on my desk.  Now THAT’S what makes me proud to be a member of such a great team!  Other team members have taken mesh bags home to fill with goodies.  All our donations will be loaded up and delivered to a drop off site on Monday, November 30th.

We just completed our United Way campaign for 2009.  It started back in September with a presentation by Chris Gardner, the inspiration for the movie, “Pursuit of Happyness” starring Will Smith.  It ended with the community goal exceeded by $50,000…..quite a feat considering Michigan’s economy.  At the closing event a “thank-you” video was shown that highlights the impact your giving has.

One person can make a difference.  When you have a whole team working together, the results are amazing!

SPACE’S United Way Campaign Draws to a Close

Our great SPACE employees have answered the call to help their neighbors again this year.  As the 2009 United Way campaign draws to a close, I’m proud to report that employee giving is only $48 shy of last year’s record number.  That’s amazing to me considering Michigan’s economy and the belt-tightening everyone’s doing.

Thanks in part to our SPACE team, United Way of Midland County can continue to meet the increasing needs of people in our area.  In addition, our SPACE team adds to their monetary pledges by donating time to Volunteer Center programs, United Way agencies, and the community at large.

Final community-wide totals will be available the first week of November.  As of right now, the campaign is at 72% of goal.  With most individual campaigns ending this coming week, hopes are high that the last 28% will be met.   Stay tuned for those final numbers……and……LIVE UNITED!

SPACE United Way Campaign 2009

SPACE kicked off its 2009 United Way campaign at the Team Meeting on Friday, 9/25.  After watching the United Way 2009 Campaign Video that highlighted 3 of the 28 agency partners United Way supports, a few of the impacts of giving were reviewed.

Being asked to donate money to others when you’re struggling to make it yourself in this economy presents a dilemma for most people.  If you can see how your dollars make a difference, you realize that maybe you’re not struggling as much as someone else is.  In addition, giving of your time by volunteering at one of the programs of agency partners, working at one of their events, or promoting their activities are other ways to provide support.

After careful review of what agencies are requesting as funding for 2010, this year’s United Way of Midland County campaign goal was set at $4.8 million.  This is the same goal as last year in an economy that’s dropped significantly.  However, the needs of the community have escalated due to that economy.  More than ever, your dollars are needed by more of your neighbors.

If you haven’t done so already, please consider giving through payroll deduction.  It’s the easiest, most painless way to give.  Even $2 a pay period makes a difference.  Forms are available in my office.  A special thank-you to all those who’ve already made a commitment.

As an additional fundraiser, you can “buy a shirt, wear your jeans!”  If you donate $10, your name will go on a “Live United” t-shirt pinup and you can wear jeans on a Friday.   Buy more than one shirt, wear jeans more than one Friday!  Let’s see how many paper t-shirts we can post on our panels!

Sittris is a provider of seating especially made for the healthcare industry.  One of the major concerns in healthcare today is infection control.  In a study (performed or evaluated by Sittris) more than 3 million people in North America acquire an infection during a hospital stay.  An estimated 100,000 of these people die.

Sittris has made it their business to develop products exclusively for the healthcare market.  Infection control, patient handling, nurse retention, product versatility, cleanability and durability are all key issues they address.  Their seating has a modern look and a functionality for patients as well as healthcare facilities who have to clean the furniture to help the spread of infection.  Siliform(TM) is a patented germ resistant silicone “upholstery” that does not off-gas and is easily cleanable with toxin-free products, but will also withstand the harshest of hospital cleaners.

Project Coordination Meetings Are A Must For A Perfect Project.

At SPACE Inc.we utilize “goto meeting” when it is not convenient for a traditional face to face Project Coordination Meeting. This allows all parties involved (electricians, data, communications, facilities managers, customers, just to name a few) to attend these meetings with out leaving their office. This saves everyone time and money. The Project Teams at SPACE Inc. sends out an invitation via email to everyone involved. The invitation supplies everyone instructions on when and how to log into the meetings. Through the use of each persons telephone and computer with Internet capabilities, everyone can hear and view the SPACE Teams meeting as if they were right there in the same room. This is just another way that SPACE Inc. puts customers first.
