School Starts Today

With today being the first day of school here in Michigan, we all need a refresher course on Safety as it relates to the start of the school year. It’s been 9 months since we have dealt with the school year.

It’s estimated that 24 million students nationwide start their school day with a trip on the school bus. The greatest risk is not riding the bus, but approaching or leaving the bus. School buses are nearly 8 times safer than passenger vehicles. But children must take care when boarding or leaving the bus. While an average of 7 school-age passengers are killed in school bus crashes each year, 19 are killed getting on and off the bus.

Most of those killed are children, five to seven years old.

Young children are often in a hurry to get on or off the bus.

Sometimes they act before they think and have little experience with traffic. They assume motorists will see them and will wait for them to cross.

Let’s make sure we look out for our childeren as well as those of others. Take a minute, it is worth every bit of it.

Haworth To Add 649 New Jobs In Michigan

The last couple of years has definitely taken its toll on the office furniture business.  There has been so much bad news in our industry it is nice to hear something positive.  Haworth is bringing 649 new jobs to Michigan by the end of next year.  With over production in the office furniture business, Haworth has decided to consolidate a few of its facilities from Calgary to Holland and Big Rapids.  This is not good news for the Calgary plant, and SPACE Inc wants to thank all employees from that facility for the great products they have produced thru the years.  This consolidation will help Haworth remain strong in these bad economic times.  Haworth will be moving their movable walls and wood manufacturing to the Holland and Big Rapids plants.  This will have a positive effect on the local economy in Holland and Big Rapids where the unemployment rate is close to 16%, according to a press release.  SPACE Inc looks forward to the change and continued success of Haworth.

Healthcare Seating Solutions

Sittris is a provider of seating especially made for the healthcare industry.  One of the major concerns in healthcare today is infection control.  In a study (performed or evaluated by Sittris) more than 3 million people in North America acquire an infection during a hospital stay.  An estimated 100,000 of these people die.

Sittris has made it their business to develop products exclusively for the healthcare market.  Infection control, patient handling, nurse retention, product versatility, cleanability and durability are all key issues they address.  Their seating has a modern look and a functionality for patients as well as healthcare facilities who have to clean the furniture to help the spread of infection.  Siliform(TM) is a patented germ resistant silicone “upholstery” that does not off-gas and is easily cleanable with toxin-free products, but will also withstand the harshest of hospital cleaners.

Things Are Looking Up At SPACE Inc.

SPACE Inc has been in business for close to 15years now and we are a Haworth Furniture dealer. SPACE has seen good times and as of recent seen how the recession has effected businesses on every level.  We pride ourselves on serving our clients and helping them come to the best possible solution for their unique situations.  This attention to customer service has just paid off for SPACE Inc for the month of July where they have just turned in over one million dollars in new business for the month.

With all of the talk about the bad economy, SPACE Inc’s sales professionals and designers have been working relentlessly on serving the client’s needs as the number one focus. Even in a bad economy, when customer service is made a priority, customers will be drawn to a company with great customer service.  A lot of companies in today’s market have tried to cut corners to save money and forgot about the customer.  The furniture business is what some might say a hard business to be in right now.  One million dollars in sales for one month shows SPACE Inc has not forgot about customer service and is forging ahead in these hard times with the story “We want to make you feel special”.

Companies can buy furniture from a variety of venues today, but who will service you after your sale? Who cares some might say.  Haworth is not the cheapest office furniture on the market, but it is one of the highest quality products you will find anywhere, and it lasts for years.  If there was to be an issue with the furniture, SPACE Inc will be there to help, whether it be a warranty issue or if it is just an adjustment that needs to be made on a chair.

Congratulations to the sales and design departments on turning in a great month and thanks to the rest of the teams for making it all go smoothly.

Raised Flooring Creates More Flexibility

TecCrete Enhancements

With refined design, universal applicability, a proprietary concrete and steel composite structure and 58% recycled content, TecCrete builds on 25 years as the access floor that doesn’t feel or look like one.

The new, refined exposed concrete surface offers a unique aesthetic that is beautiful enough to leave bare.  TecCrete can also be covered with modular carpet, laminate, vinyl, rubber or almost anything.  TecCrete creates some unique visual opportunities, including use in planter boxes, reflecting pools or stained to form floor patterns.

Designer: Haworth Design Studio & Engineering Team

Bare or covered, TecCrete can now be used throughout the entire facility, providing a single access floor platform for work and learning environments, as well as computer and utility environments.  It has been redesigned to meet the varying loading and finish requirements.  For example, entryway panels can be stained and sealed, main office can be covered in carpet and computer room can be covered in static dissipative laminate or vinyl.

Raised flooring makes your work space more user friendly.  You will have the flexibility to move workstations at random without tearing out walls and rewiring data and electrical.  The data and electrical run under the floor and can be connected and ran up thru the floor using access panels.  No more being tied down because the only data and electrical feeds are running inside a wall.  This product SPACE Inc. offers, will create flexibility of having an open floor plan and workstations won’t have to be connected to a wall just because that is the only way to get power to your stations.  This raised flooring is great for renovation of older buildings and also for designing new buildings to have greater flexibility to move people in and out if your space sees high turn over.  Also would be great for commercial rental property with different clients moving in and out, it saves on constantly paying an electrician to rewire for different clients needs.  Contact SPACE Inc for more information on our TecCrete flooring.

Haworth’s 6-Circuit Power.

Haworth, Inc.introduced the first pre-wired modular panel in 1976, and the first 3-phase furniture electrical distribution system three years later.  In 1986 Haworth, Inc. were the first 8-wire power system with three separate neutrals.  Haworth, Inc. was first again in 1995 with a 14-wire power system with six dedicated neutral circuits, compatible with all building wiring configurations.

In today’s computer-intensive work environments, a critical issue is clean, reliable power. Haworth, Inc. is the industry leader in furniture-based power solutions. The ability to handle any power requirement is an important component in Haworth’s mission to completely satisfy customers’ needs.

Office equipment such as laser printers and photocopiers degrade power quality, which can adversely affect the operation of computer equipment. The ultimate effect of harmonics and electrical noise on equipment performance is often determined by the type of wiring configuration used in a furniture-based electrical distribution system.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers describes two basic types:

  • Shared-neutral circuits, in which two or more hot conductors share a common neutral conductor, and
  • Separate-neutral circuits, in which one hot connector is matched to a single neutral conductor.

Haworth satisfies the high-performance needs of electronic equipment by offering the industry’s most innovative separate-neutral power system: The Power Base. The example below shows the system’s 6-circuit option, showing a wide variety of equipment being accommodated on the system’s designated branch circuits.

Unlike shared-neutral systems, Haworth’s separate-neutral system accommodates today’s power enhancement devices such as battery back-up Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) most manufactures of these devices require dedicated circuits having separate neutral conductors and access to an isolated ground conductor.
